Will The Prodigy RF Controller Be A Compatible Replacement For The OEM Controller On 2016 Ram 2500

Question:

I drive a 2016 Dodge Ram 2500 with an integrated Brake System. I am not at all happy with the system for stopping my 38 Ft, 2015 Coachman Catalina. The trailer weighs approximately 8500 empty. With the brake unit set to 10 on the Heavy Electric Brake, I can feel the brakes engaging but not coming anywhere near stopping the unit. The truck is equipped with an exhaust brake that is the saving grace. Quick stopping is not an option. Can and will this unit work for me.

The Tekonsha Prodigy RF Wireless Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 3 Axles - Proportional # TK94FR can and will work with your 2015 Coachman Catalina Trailer and your 2016 Ram 2500. To make sure your integrated brake controller doesn't throw any codes, I recommend you put a piece of electrical tape over the connection of the brake controller pin to ensure that that pin isn't making a connection with the integrated controller. You will still utilize all the other functions of that 7-way. I've attached a photo to help with function location.

This controller will work well for your and your Coachman trailer. You will have the ability to adjust braking power, get the diagnostics at the remote, and use the manual override. This system has an inertia sensor that can sense deceleration and will brake accordingly as well as can pick up the brake light signal for proper proportional braking.
