Fit And Compatibility Of Base Plates For Jeep Wrangler U-Channel Bumper On 2003 And 2005 Models
Question:
I was looking at putting the same setup on my 2005 TJ Wrangler that my father-in-law has on his 2003 TJ Wrangler so I got the part numbers off his receipt. I then came to triple check the part numbers worked on my 2005, only to find that it shouldnt have worked on his 2003 list that the 1424-1 only fit 99-02. So my question is, why wont this fit on any TJ Wrangler with a u-channel bummer?

As models change, their towing ratings often change or the specific area of the frame is redesigned, either of which could be the case for your father-in-laws 2003 TJ Wrangler. Roadmaster determined that the mounting location of the Roadmaster XL Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # 1420-1 wasn't sufficient so they replaced it with the Roadmaster EZ4 Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # RM-521424-4. Even though it may "work" it is not intended to and is not recommended.
The # RM-521424-4 is also the confirmed fit for your 2005 TJ Wrangler that I recommend. It is a confirmed fit for the 1997 - 2006 Jeep Wrangler U-channel bumper. The # 1420-1 was only a fit for the 99-02 years as you mentioned, but some people preferred the lack of the crossbar and it was acceptable on those model years. With any of these base plate installations, I recommend the Loctite Threadlocker # LT37420.
If you want more recommendations for your system let me know and I'd by happy to assist.
