Is Extension Needed When Installing Hopkins Smart Hitch Backup Camera On 2011 F-150 Extended Cab

Question:

I have a 2011 Ford F150, I am considering a Hopkins 50002 Smart Hitch Camera system. My truck is an XLT extended cab but not a crew cab, I have a full sized bed. Do I need to get an extension cable to install it? In you video the gent suggested it might make it easier but he was installing in a crew cab.

You can take a quick measurement to determine if you need to buy an extension when installing a backup camera on your 2011 F-150 XLT Extended Cab.

The wire harness length for the Hopkins Smart Hitch Backup Camera # HM50002 is 19-feet 7-inches. You will want to make sure when routing the wire under your truck you avoid sharp edges and the exhaust.

In my research I found the overall length of a SUPERCAB F-150 with the 8-ft bed was 20.8 ft long. That length includes the distance from the windshield to the front bumper. Since that length is about 3-1/2 ft, the included harness will most likely be enough for your truck.

If you find that is not long enough then the 5-ft extension # HM3100504060 would take care of the needed length.
