Why is Brake Mounting Flange for 1-3/4" Round Trailer Axles # 4-34 Center Hole Larger than 1-3/4"
Question:
If the Brake Mounting Flange for 1-3/4inch Round Trailer Axles - 2K Item # 4-34 is designed for 1-3/4 axles, then why is the center hole 1-5/8 dia. Maybe I received parts from a bad batch?

Expert Reply:
That is the correct hole size for brake mounting flange # 4-34. That would leave space for an approximate 1/8 inch weld all around the spindle. Because welding on brake flanges is a precision job it is recommended to have a professional welder with experience welding on flanges to perform the installation. A special jig needs to be used to ensure the flanges are perfectly straight/concentric or it could lead to tire wear and other issues that will negatively impact the performance of the trailer.
