Bike Carrying Options for Lance 1475 Travel Trailer Towed by Toyota FJ Cruiser

Question:

I have an FJ Cruiser and a Lance 1475 trailer with no rear bumper. Is there any type of bike rack setup that will work to haul my bikes?

Your Lance 1475 a-frame single-axle travel trailer has a fairly long tongue area for the jack and propane tank and so one option for transporting your bikes is to use the Stromberg Carlson Bike Bunk # CC-275, which is one of the items you reviewed. The Bike Bunk is adjustable so it will fit most a-frames between 14- and 55-inches wide and it offers simple bolt-on installation.

Once mounted you can install in its 2-inch receiver opening a 2-inch RV-rated bike carrier of your preference, such as the platform sstyle Curt # C18085 two-bike rack, or the frame-mount Swagman Original 3 # S64152-2 (one of which I have owned for about 3 years - love it). Neither of these racks is especially costly or fancy but they get the job done. I tend to favor the Curt for your application since it is much light easier to install this lighter rack in the Bike Bunk.

Another option is a front-mounted hitch receiver that bolts on to the front of the FJ Cruiser. For instance, Curt front hitch # 31367 fits the 2007 through 2014 FJ Cruiser.

Please feel free to tell me about how many bikes you have to transport, their type (mountain, electric, etc) and total weight and I will be glad to find your the best solution.
