Recommended Pulse Preventer For Electric Brake Controller To Prevent Brake Pulse From Turn Signal

Question:

Im having an issue with my brake controller in my motor coach. Its a diesel pusher with air brakes and separate turn signal and brake lights. When I turn on the left turn signal, the brakes on the trailer, surge with the flash of the light. I think the controller is defective and needs replacing. I would like to know what model and style would be best for my use. Would the time delay unit serve my purpose? Im confused on which style will work the best. I haul a car and motorcycle on an 18 ft trailer. Please advise.

Helpful Expert Reply:

It sounds like the brake controller is picking up some of the current from the blinkers. I recommend installing the Draw-Tite Pulse Preventer # 5501, which will remedy the issue. A pulse preventer essentially filters out the fluctuations created by the blinkers so that only the constant signal of having the brake pedal applied will activate the controller.
