How to Determine Which Drum Brakes to Get

Question:

I have a 22 foot boat trailer with drum brakes. The outside of the drum says 10.9. What drum brake assembly do I need to order so that it is compatable with my existing system? Thanks for your help. I am new to this so I dont know if they are all standardized or not. Thanks for your help

There are a few pieces of information that you will need to know when looking for replacement drum brakes.

First of all you will need to know the weight capacity of your axle so you can choose drum brakes that will be able to safely stop your trailer.

The brake mounting flange is another important thing to look at when looking for trailer brakes. The most common is a 4 bolt pattern, but there are 5 bolt patterns for trailers with a bigger weight capacity.

You will also need to note the size of your wheel size. Since it looks like you have a hydraulic actuator on your trailer the Hydraulic Brake Kit # AKFBBRK-35-D would be a good option for a 3,500 lb axle and will work with 13, 14, and 15 inch wheels.

If you can let me know what those different components are on your trailer I will be able to help you find the appropriate drum brakes for your application.
