Recommended Thule Hitch-Mount or Trunk-Mount Bike Rack for 2016 BMW 328i

Question:

Looking for a Thule hitch bike rack for a BMW 328i. If it doesnt exist, a trunk mounted bike rack. Minimum 2 bikes. Thank you. If hitch, a trailer hitch recommendation would be helpful.

First, for a trailer hitch that is confirmed to fit your 2016 BMW 328i, I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4" # C11367. This will give you a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening with a 200-pound tongue weight capacity. I have attached the installation details for you to check out.

Then, when choosing a hitch-mount bike rack, you will just need to make sure that the rack is compatible with Class I trailer hitches. Keep in mind that the maximum amount of bikes a rack can carry when used with a Class I hitch is 2 bikes.

If you decide to go with the trunk-mount option, I recommend adding the Thule Passive Security Strap # TH533 to secure the rack to your vehicle and a cable lock # e98891 to secure your bikes to the rack.

If you plan on carrying any children's, woman's or alternative frame bikes, you may also need an adapter bar like the Thule # TH982XT. This will provide a horizontal attachment point for level transport and improved ground clearance.
