When To Use Suspension Enhancements With Weight Distribution On A 2013 Ram 1500
Question:
Im confused - just too much conflicting information out there! I have a TT with a loaded weight of 8200 to 8400 pounds. I pull it with a 2013 Ram 1500. I have a 1000 lb Blue Ox w/d. The ideal tongue weight, according to Blue Ox is 13 of loaded trailer weight. It was suggested by their customer service division that I should have the 1500 pound bars. Fair enough. Now, heres the question: there are Timbron rear suspension enhancers and one comment suggested that they shouldnt be used with a w/d set up. Another one said they could be. What is the correct answer, please? The TV has coil springs and a factory installed towing package, Hemi 5.7 and 3.92 rear end. Thanks for any light you can shed on this. Best regards

I understand your confusion due to the various opinions out there on this subject. I will certainly do my best to clear things up for you. If you need any further clarification, please don't hesitate to ask.
In regards to the use of suspension enhancements with a weight distribution system, I can say that a properly installed and rated weight distribution system will not require any further suspension enhancements. If you are still experiencing squat with your current system, I recommend the 1,500 lb spring bars part # BXW4008 to further level the load.
In this case, your 2013 Dodge Ram came factory with rear coil springs. This was designed to increase handling and stability however, while towing they have a tendency to squat a little more than other vehicles with traditional leaf springs. It is not uncommon to upgrade the spring bars to a higher rated option in order to compensate for the Ram's rear suspension.
If you decide to the use the Timbren rear springs you will need part # TDR1500DQ for extended cab models or the Timbren part # TDR1500DS for regular cabs. These springs are designed to stabilize and level the load of your trailer and vehicle while towing. However, I recommend ensuring that you have the properly rated and installed weight distribution system for your setup before additional purchases.
I hope this helps.
