Brake Controller Harness Install Location On A 2016 Ford Explorer
Question:
I purchased a trailer hitch, trailer brake harness and brake controller from you guys. I am having difficulties finding out exactly were the brake wiring harness is for my 2016 ford explorer to connect the brake controller. Is it the wiring harness directly behind the brake pedal?

Thank you for the purchase, we surely appreciate it. I would be glad to direct you to the proper direction for your brake controller install.
Assuming your vehicle is equipped with a factory 4-flat or 7-way wiring harness, then the location of the brake adapter plug will be located under the kick panel on the driver's side of the vehicle. Additionally you will need to remove the black appearance panel held in by two screws and then slide out the second panel to gain access. Manufacturers tend to tape the pigtails to existing wires so you may have to do a bit of digging. I have attached a photo of where the pigtail should be located.
If your vehicle does not have a factory 4-flat or 7-way connector, then you will not find a pigtail present as you will have to hardwire in you own to the adapter that comes with the brake controller kit. You will also need the Universal Installation Kit part # ETBC7 and our 4-Pole Hardwire Kit part # 18252 to complete the install.
I have attached an installation video for a brake controller on a similar 2014 Ford Explorer for your review.
