Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch For 2013 Ram 1500 5.5 Foot Bed With Rambox
Question:
2013 Ram 5.7 Hemi 1500 Quadcab 4x4, 5 6 short bed with Ramboxes. I have bought this truck and have now been told I possibly cant use it to tow a 5th wheel van, which is/was the plan- to go touring across Europe for a few years. One of the problems seems to be the height of the tail gate at 5foot 4inch from the ground, and the consensus being the king pin on the trailer should be 48inch from the ground. There is an opinion, and on this site, that I can do it with a sidewinder pinbox on the van. Its the height difference Im worried about though. Can you please give me some guidance?

If you don't already have rails, I recommend the Reese Custom Rails # RP50142-58 for your truck. Once you have rails, I recommend theCurt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Slide Bar Jaw - 16,000 lbs # C16115 which will fit with your rails. This hitch has interlocking jaws and a fully articulating torsion head for controlled coupling and a quiet stable ride. This hitch has an adjustment from 13 to 17 inches tall.
This hitch will work well with a Sidewinder that is required for a 5-1/2 foot bed but you'll also need the Wedge # RP64FR to keep the king pin from rotating inside the hitch. You will need to know the pin box number of your trailer in order for us to get you the right equipment. If you can't find the number listed on your pin box (normally on a sticker or plaque), you can measure it to find out what you need. I've attached an article to assist. Once we have your pin box number I can give you measurements for your options.
