Difference Between a Drop for Round Bars and Drop for Square Bars in Weight Distribution Shanks

Question:

I am getting ready to order a new shank for my Weight Distribution set up but with longer drop. When I look at all the Shanks on your website, there is a filter showing Round Drop or Square Drop. What is the difference?

Choosing a weight distribution shank with the right amount of drop (or rise) depends a lot on the weight distribution system you have. The reason there are different options, round, square, and trunnion, is because the different types have the bars positioned in different places. The square bar categories are exclusively Equal-I-Zer brand shanks since they have square bars.

If you find a shank that seems like it would work for you view the specs on its page to see the rise and drop. For example # EQ90-02-4400 has a maximum drop of 9 inches measured from the top of the receiver opening to the top of the platform the ball attaches to.

Some shanks such as # RP3215 for example have different rise and drop numbers depending on if it is used with a trunnion bar system or round bar system. The reason for that is because the 2 different systems hold the bars in different positions. The round bar systems have bars that hang lower so the head design is a little different than a trunnion head and the rise/drop measurements won't be the same.
