Can Stromberg Carlson Folding Bumper-Mounted Tire Carrier # TR-2 Be Used In Lowered Position

Question:

I have been getting information about cargo carrier for RV and it has been very helpful. I have a related question about TR2. The cargo hitch will be installed on hitch not connected to the bumper. My spare tire location has limited my choices. There is a picture of the TR2 holding the tire in a flat position. This would allow me to carry the spare tire below the level of the cargo carrier. Can the tire be transported on the TR2 in this position.

I called my contact at Stromberg Carlson and asked about the Folding Bumper-Mounted Tire Carrier # TR-2.

The tire carrier cannot be left in the lowered position as you asked. There would be too much stress on the lower bolt on the carrier and would be unsafe. The upper pin is designed to secure the arm with the tire and should always be used in the upright position when traveling.
