Recommended Hatch-Mount Bike Rack for 2009 Hyundai Accent 3-Door Hatchback
Question:
Hello, Im hoping you can help me with a bike rack. I have a 2009 Hyundai accent 3dr. hatchback. I was looking for a 2 or 3 bike rack to fit this vehicle but Im not sure there is one out there that is safe because on top of the hatch is the third brake light which is mounted in a plastic type valance. I dont think it will handle the stress of straps pulling on it. I dont know how long I will have this car so I was hoping to find a inexpensive rack without installing a hitch. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

You are correct that some vehicle features like spoilers can make it difficult to properly install a hatch mount rack that uses straps for attachment since these straps can apply pressure on such parts. Luckily the folks at Hollywood Racks developed specialized 2- and 3-bike carriers that will work fine with spoilers and other features such as your 3rd brake light.
The Over-the-Top carriers, both the 2-bike # HRF2 and 3-bike # HRF2-3, feature a unique arched frame design that avoids putting any stress on the more delicate parts of the car. You can see this in the linked video.
If you care to add some security items you can lock the bikes to the rack with cable lock # e98891 and deter rack theft with Passive Security Strap # TH533.
