Are Air Bags Needed to Tow Trailer with Weight Distribution System

Question:

I have a 2014 F150 ecoboost towing a 7300lb bumper pull rv. I use a load leveling system but wondering if I need to add air bags with it.

If you have a properly rated weight distribution system for your 7,300 pound RV, then adding air bags to your 2014 F-150 should not be necessary. While technically the two systems can be used together, I do not recommend it as often they can actually work against each other.

The best solution for reducing rear end sag on the tow vehicle caused by towing a trailer is a weight distribution system like the # BLU45FR. Installing an air bag system works best when the vehicle sag is caused by heavy loads carried in the truck bed itself.

As long as your weight distribution system is properly rated and you are not experiencing any issues, then you do not need any additional components for safely towing your trailer. You just want to make sure the total tongue weight of your setup, which includes the loaded tongue weight of your trailer along with any added weight coming from cargo items stored behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle, falls somewhere within the weight capacity range of your weight distribution system.
