Recommended 2-Bike Hitch-Mount Carrier for 57 Pound Bikes on 2017 Honda CR-V

Question:

The Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE 4-Bike Platform Rack - 2inch Hitches - Frame Mount Item # HR1400 will support 4 45# bikes for a total of 180 #s. We have two 57# bikes. Might this rack work in a 2 bike configuration and carry our two 57# bikes? Please list all your bike racks that would carry our bikes. Thank you.

I do have a couple of solutions for you, however it is not recommended to transport your two 57 pound bikes with the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE 4-Bike Platform Rack # HR1400Z referenced in your question. While the total weight capacity on this rack is 180 pounds, it is still limited to 50 pounds per bike because of the individual wheel mount and hook capacities.

I instead recommend looking at the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE # HLY84FR. This 2-bike carrier is designed specifically for electric or heavier bikes and it has a weight capacity of 80 pounds per bike. This is a similar platform-style rack to the product you were looking at and it can hold wheelbases up to 60 inches and tire widths up to 3 inches. The rack can be tilted down for easy rear cargo access and includes both a hitch lock and cable lock to secure your rack to your vehicle and the bikes to the rack.

I also really like the Thule EasyFold XT 2 Bike Platform Rack # TH903202 that has a weight capacity of 65 pounds bike. A great feature on this system is that it includes a removable, telescoping ramp to help you load your heavy bikes. The rack can be tilted with a foot release lever for easy bike loading and rear cargo area access. This rack also includes locks.

The Kuat NV 2.0 2-Bike Platform Rack # NV22G and the Thule T2 Classic # TH83JV are also capable of transporting your bikes with weight capacities of 60 pounds per bike.
