Best Brake Controller For 1994 Suburban K1500 And Recommended Suspension Enhancement

Question:

I am looking to pull my 1978 Holiday Rambelette 5300 lbs empty with my 1994 Suburban K1500 about 90 miles round trip on the weekends over flat ground. After a ton of research, I am thinking a brake controller and suspension enhancement may be in order. Installing a 7 way is no problem not purchased or done yet and I have found the orange and blue factory wires in the rear and the front, but there is no fuse box on the drivers side under the hood or open ports by the brake pedal control box. Should I spend the money to upgrade to a pendulum controller for what Im doing? Any suggestions on what I should use to get down the road are appreciated.

The best brake controller is the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 4 Axles - Proportional # 90195. This controller will work great with your 1994 Chevy Suburban K1500. This controller has an LCD screen that displays what you need to know at a glance. It runs constant diagnostics so you have fast information that is easy to understand versuse the majority of brake controllers that require deciphering a code. This controller is proportional, so it will apply the same amount of force at the same time to your trailer brakes as you apply to the brake pedal in your Suburban.

To connect this controller, I recommend you begin with a 4-way flat connector. If you don't have one already, I recommend the Curt T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C55319. This harness connects to your factory wiring located beneath your vehicle along the driver's-side frame rail.

Using a 4-way flat, you will then use the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat - 10 Gauge Wires # ETBC7. This kit will give you the 7 way connector, the wires, the circuit breakers, and everything else you need to wire your brake controller and your 7-way. I've linked a video to assist in this installation.

For suspension enhancement, I recommend the RoadActive Suspension Kit # RAS4611. This easy to install kit is adjustable and adds critical strength to leaf springs without compromising the ride quality. It converst basic leaf springs into mechanically active suspension.
