Recommended Fastway e2 Weight Distribution System for a Trailer that is 5,500 lbs GTW and 600 lbs TW

Question:

Im wondering which E2 fastway hitch is right for me. I have a 2012 Chevrolet 1500 and just purchased a 2017 Lance 1685. Trailer has a 5500 lb. GVWR. Im guessing that it would be likely to load with more than 10 tounge weight. Should I consider the 8000 lb. hitch or is this overkill. Would this hitch still work properly if my load and tounge weight are under 5,500 lbs. and 600 lbs. respectively.

Weight Distribution (WD) systems are great, but it can be difficult to find one with the correct range sometimes.

You are heading in the right direction when it comes to figuring out what WD system you will need based off of your Tongue Weight (TW) and Gross Trailer Weight (GTW). You will also need to add the weight of any cargo that sits behind the rear axle of your 2012 Silverado 1500 into the mix as well. When you add the TW of your loaded and ready-to-go trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your Silverado, we call this the Total Tongue Weight (TTW). You will want to make sure that your TTW falls about in the middle of whatever WD system you decide to choose.

You will want to keep in mind that your TW should be 10-15 percent of your GTW, although 13 percent is the ideal percentage. If your TW is going to be 600 lbs then I recommend going with the 8,000 lbs Fastway e2 WD system, part # FA94-00-0800, which has a TW range of 400 lbs - 800 lbs.

This WD system does not come with a hitch ball so you will want to use either part # EQ91-00-6080 for a 2 inch hitch ball, or part # 63840 for a 2-5/16 inch hitch ball.

I have attached some demonstration videos for you to check out as well.
