Weight Distribution System Shank with At Least 6 Inches of Drop

Question:

Hello from Portland! Just installing your Curt WD round bar 17052 on a 2008 Nissan Armada with stock 10k hitch. The stock Curt shank seems to not go low enough for our horse trailer. The correct alternative shank? For our Logan horse trailer sitting level, the top of the coupler is 18inch from the ground. The ride height just inside the top edge of the Armada receiver is 22. With the stock Curt shank and the head in the bottom holes, the top of the 2 5/16 ball is 22. the 6inch difference is too much for a level trailer. With the improved suspension of the Armada, the trailer can sit level when the trailer is empty, but with two horses, the dolphining of truck and trailer is too much, and the trailer is not level, thus the WD hitch.

To determine the correct rise or drop for a trailer you want to measure from the inside top of the receiver tube like you did. Then you want to measure from the bottom of the trailer's coupler to the ground. Both will need to be parked on level ground for a true measurement. Then you figure the difference.

The shank that is included with the Curt MV Weight Distribution System # C17052 you have has a maximum drop of 2-1/2 inches.

For a shank with 6 inches of drop # FA92-02-4214. This offers up to 7-1/4 inches of drop.
