More than likely you will need to reinforce the bumper on the vehicle tow bar # 63180 is going to be used on. Take a look at the instructions I have linked for you.

This tow bar is only rated for 45 miles per hour and 5,000 pounds so for larger vehicles like your 2007 Chevy Express van it is not a great option. At the minimum the curb weight of the van is nearly 4,900 pounds and can be as much as 6,300 pounds or more.

To flat tow the van safely I recommend using custom base plates and a tow bar rated higher (and for a higher speed). If the van is a 2500 or 3500 with a gas motor you can use # 3140-1. If it is a 2-wheel drive 1500 you can use # 3152-1.

For a compatible tow bar rated for 6,000 pounds you can use the StowMaster # RM-501. To go higher than that, up to 10,000 pounds, I recommend the BlackHawk 2, # RM-422. And for safety cables rated up to 7,500 pounds you can use # C80176.

The van will also need lighting. You can save money by using a magnetic such as # RM-2120. Or for a more permanent installation you can use 4-diode kit # RM-154.

You may also need a high/low adapter to keep the tow bar level. I have linked a help article showing how to measure and a link to the high/low adapters we carry.

And finally, most states now require supplemental braking on the vehicle being flat towed. One of the preferred systems for our installers and what I recommend is the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO proportional system, # SM99251. It will apply the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.

The # RM-88400 relay is required to prevent the towed vehicle's brake signal from overriding the turn signal from the RV when applying the brakes during a turn if you choose the 4-diode kit. The relay is not required when using magnetic tow lights.

Be sure to consult your vehicle owners manual for specific information on flat towing the vehicle. I have also included some helpful links to our series of help articles on flat towing for you.
