Parts Needed to Replace 7-Way of Motorcycle Trailer with 4-Way

Question:

I have 2 different motorcycle trailers I want to be able to pull with my motorcycle depending on how long a trip Im taking. My vehicle is a 2017 Harley Tri-Glide. Trailer #1 is a small camper with a 4-flat, male end on trailer. Loaded weight is 375 pounds no brakes. Trailer #2 is a small cargo trailer with a 7-pin ROUND FEMALE end on trailer. Loaded weight is 200 pounds. Cant imagine a 200 pound trailer having brakes so why this trailer has a 7-pin wiring connector is a mystery to me. The plug on trailer #2 looks like the round end of your item PK12742. Have been looking without success for an adapter for trailer #2 but all adapters I found are female-female and I would need a male-male, assuming an adapter would even work. The 2012 Tri-glide motorcycle that used to pull trailer #2 was traded in for a new 2017 Tri-glide so I no longer have a bike with a wiring harness that will connect to trailer #2. Since I want the new trike to be able to pull either Trailer #1 or Trailer #2 and DONT WANT a big fat round connector on my new trike I think my best option is to re-wire trailer #2. Dont have a wiring diagram specific to trailer #2. I was able to find a standard wiring diragram for a 7-pin trailer but do not know whether this wiring is consistent with my trailer. I believe that Trailer #2 has backup lights, but if backup lights are rendered inoperable by re-wiring to a flat-4 that would not be a problem for me as I never back it up anyway. What would I need to rewire trailer #2 to have a flat-4 male connector on trailer side? Thanks for your

To replace the 7-way of your trailer with a 4-way basically just requires you to install a 4-way like the # HM48030 in place of the 7-way. You really only need trailer lighting functions so what you would want to do is use a jumper wire to put 12 volts from a vehicle battery onto each of the wires of the trailer's wiring to determine which wires you need.

The 4-way has white for ground, brown for running lights, yellow for left turn/stop, and green for right/turn stop. If you find that your trailer has a separate stoplight circuit from the turn signals what you need is the converter part # 118158 which will separate out the signals and allow you to activate them properly. Basically the converter would just install in between the 4-way and the rest of the trailer's wiring.
