Install Aftermarket Trailer Brake Controller, 2011 GMC Sierra w/Factory Integrated Brake Controller
Question:
My 2011 Sierra has a factory controller, which is apparently a proportional controller, but probably lacks some of the Teknosha Prodigy features. GM tow package description says the factory controller may be disconnected and a compatible after market unit substituted. If so, I was unable trace the wiring to anything that looks like a plug adaptor. Where is it?

There are several steps to follow when installing an aftermarket brake controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy P2, # 90885, on a 2011 GMC Sierra with a factory integrated brake controller. The factory installed controller will not need to be disconnected to install the Prodigy P2.
You will need to find the 4 or 5 blunt cut wires under the dash, slightly to the left and above the brake pedal. They will be held together with a white tag that should list the functions of the wires. It is these wires you will use to make the connections to the Prodigy brake controller.
I have included a link to an FAQ article that explains the entire process on installing an after market brake controller on a 2007 to 2011 Chevy or GMC full-size truck with a factory integrated brake controller. The FAQ will guide you through the process.
