Recommended Weight Distribution System for a 2017 Ford Raptor Pulling a Toy Hauler
Question:
Hi I just purchased a 2017 Ford Raptor Super crew and about to purchase this toy hauler Trailer. Dry is 3100 My trailer hitch on truck is 8000lb and I believe the max on the trailer is 7500 I dont plan on towing near max I will be using trailer for cross country move and guessing may have 6000lb maybe another 600 -1000 if dont sell my moto For camping/summer touring, Im guessing I will be around 5000 and mostly solo Im looking at equalizer hitch and there doesnt appear to be a one for 8000 tow wt. closets are 6000 and 10000 Would you recc the 10k one or 6k one? will 10k one be too stiff w/o a lot of wt, will 6k one be too soft on initial haul?

When picking out a Weight Distribution (WD) system you will need to know what your Total Tongue Weight (TTW) is. Your TTW is the Tongue Weight (TW) of your loaded and ready-to-go trailer, plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle in your 2017 Ford Raptor.
The Eqaul-i-zer for 10k # EQ37100ET actually has a tongue weight range of 600 lbs - 1,000 lbs so it would most likely be the better of the 2 to choose from. However, what I recommend doing is holding off on getting a WD system until you have been able to make a few trips with your trailer. Since the trailer you are looking at has the capability of being a toy hauler, I recommend making some practice runs until you know what your normal TW is going to be. You can use the etrailer Trailer Tongue Weight Scale # e99044 to do so.
Once you have perfected the art of loading your trailer and making sure the TW is between 10-15 percent, you should be able to pick out a WD system more accurately. I would just hate for you to estimate a TW and then once you get all of your equipment loaded up finding out that your WD system will not be big enough. Afterall, 15 percent of 600 lbs is 900 lbs which puts you very close to that max weight of the 10k system.
