Does Bulldog 12.5K Square Trailer Jack Have to be Welded On

Question:

I have a 1992 aluminum Sooner 3 horse slant gooseneck trailer. The original jack has stopped lifting when you turn the crank handle, the gears are stripped. So I would like to replace the original jack with the Bulldog jack. However my original jack is bolted on, not welded. Is there a way to bolt on the Bulldog Jack or do I have to try and weld to the aluminum of my trailer? Thank you for your help.

One option would be to weld a bracket to Bulldog jack # BD182700 and then bolt the whole thing to the trailer. That way you are not welding steel to aluminum. Otherwise, if you choose to go with welding the jack straight to the trailer frame I recommend having a professional welder do it because welding to aluminum is tricky and takes experience.

If you weld a steel bracket to the steel jack tube the bracket would have to be fabricated since there isn't a bracket made for this purpose.
