Can a Power Off Switch be Added to the Hopkins Agility Brake Controller

Question:

Hi, I am looking to purchase the Hopkins Agility Trailer Brake Controller - Item # HM47295. My Question is: Is it OK to put a cut off switch to kill the 12v power to the unit when not in use? I would place the switch in line with the BLACK 12v wire. Basically my worry is that when the unit does not have 12v power and brake pedal of my vehicle is depressed the brake light signal will still be applied to the unit red wire and obviously I do not want to damage the unit.

I have some good news for you. Having the brake signal going to the brake controller # HM47295 will not harm it whether you are towing or not. But if you remove the power to the brake controller 2 things will happen:

First, the signal from the brake switch will go to the brake controller anyway. And second you will have to reset the controller settings every time you remove power to the controller. So given this information it is best to keep power to the controller.
