Weight Capacity Of ST235/80R15 Wheel/Tire Combination

Question:

My 33 foot Montana Travel Trailer by scale weight is 9000# plus1000# at the hitch. I have used Loadstar ST tires for many years without problems. I am going to replace my current ST225/75R15 with new wheels/tires of sizeST235/80R16. I have plenty of wheel well clearance You show a Rating of 3500# single and 3197# dual. If I put on 4 ST235/80R16 tires on my Tandem Axles do I have 7000# tire capacity on each axle?

Expert Reply:

Using a wheel and tire combination like the Kenda Karrier ST235/80R16 Radial Trailer Tire w/ 16" black Mod Wheel - 6 on 5-1/2 - Load Range E # AM34834 on a tandem axle trailer would give you just over 7000 lbs per axle capacity at your tires. Your load capacity of your trailer will be limited to the weakest component in your system, so even though your tires/wheels will have that capacity you will want to look at each other component to determine your max capacity of your trailer.
