What Size Circuit Breakers are Needed When Installing Brake Controller Kit in 2010 GMC Canyon

Question:

Hi I just bought a electric brake controller kit from a RV dealer to go on my 2010 GMC Canyon. The kit can came with 30A and 40A relay can still use them in my instalment? Or have use 20a and 40a relay only? And if it possible can I get at installation diagram it didnt came with the kit? Thanks

The install kit most likely came with three relays. You will only use two though. One for the 12 volt accessory circuit of the 7-way (the 40 amp), and then either the 20 or 30 amp breaker for powering the brake controller. If you are using a single or tandem axle trailer you would use the 20 amp breaker. If you will be towing a triple axle braked trailer then the 30 amp would be needed.

Since you have a GMC Canyon I can't imagine you towing a triple axle trailer so use the 20 amp breaker.
