How to Wire a 4 to 7-Way Adapter on a Grand Vitara to Power a Prodigy RF Brake Controller

Question:

Dear Sir, I have a flat 4 currently. In order to use the Tekonsha Prodigy RF electronic brake controller, what do I need to connect from the 7 pole adapter on my towing vehicle? I can understand a ground wire and a 12 Volt wire with circuit breaker but do I still need to connect the blue brake controller wire? If the RF controller is mounted on the trailer is connected to the towing vehicle and has power and the trailer is connected to the RF controller wouldnt the rest be done wirelessly through the remote? Please advise

To power the RF brake controller # TK94FR, it is only necessary to connect the 12v power wire and ground wire on your 4 to 7-Way adapter. If you have a typical adapter like our part # 30717, the ground wire should be white and the power wire is typically black or red. The remaining wires can be tied off.

You also have the option connect the auxiliary wire if you need to power backup lights or another accessory on your trailer. This wire is typically orange or purple in color.

To prepare the adapter to hook up the brake controller, you will attach the ground wire to a clean metal area on the vehicle frame, and the 12v wire will be run into the engine compartment and connected to the positive battery terminal on your 2010 Suzuki Grand Vitara. As you mentioned, a circuit breaker will be installed in line on the black wire. You will use a 40amp circuit breaker like our part # 9510.

In standard brake controller and 7-Way connector installations, the blue electric brake wire is run between the 7-Way at the rear of the vehicle and the blue wire coming off the brake controller itself. Since the Prodigy RF is powered at the rear of the vehicle, this connection is not required.

I am including links to the installation instructions for the # TK94FR RF brake controller, as well as some additional information on wiring for towing in general, if needed.
