Changing Spring Hangers To Raise Or Lower A Trailer

Question:

If I add different size spring hangers to my travel trailer, does the length you increase/ decrease correspond to actual lift/lower height? Example If I add 2inch longer hangers all around will my trailer actually ride 2inch higher after I adjust the hitch? I dont want the 5-6inch of flipping the springs to the top of the axle. Thanks in advance

Yes. If you change no other components, the hanger length increase should directly correspond to the lift of the trailer. So, if you use a tandem axle kit like the Tandem-Axle Trailer Hangers for 1-3/4" Wide Double-Eye Springs - 3-1/4" Tall Front # H248, and each hanger is 1-1/2 inches longer than your current corresponding hangers, you will lift your trailer by 1-1/2 inches. This would work the same way for lowering a trailer.

Can I flip my shackles to gain a little tire clearance on my tandem axle travel trailer?

Flipping your shackles won't be the solution you are seeking. You instead will want to flip your axles using an over-under kit like # K71-384-00 for 3,500 lb axles or # K71-385-00 for 3 inch diameter axles (typically 4,200 to 6,000 lb capacity). This moves the leaf springs from under the axle to putting the spring seats on top of the axles gaining you the 2-3/8 inch or 3 inch diameter of your axle plus the height of your leaf spring stack. This will give you the tire clearance you are seeking on your travel trailer and requires no welding or changing out other components.
