Cargo Carrier for Carrying Generator at Rear of RV

Question:

I am looking for the best option to carry a Honda 7000is generator 270 lbs on the rear of my Jayco fifth wheel. The fifth wheel has a factory installed frame mounted 2inch hitch, so it should handle the weight. I know many of the cargo carriers are rated for 500 lbs, but with the stress of generator movement while traveling, I am afraid that I will end with a $4000 generator tumbling down the highway. I have read a bunch of reviews on the carriers rated for 500lbs and many claim that they didnt hold up to the stress of much lighter loads. I would prefer to spend a little more to ensure I dont lose my my generator, so any advice would be appreciated.

Yes, you can use Curt trailer hitch mount cargo carrier # C18152 on the back of an RV. You will want to avoid models that fold up because folding models have additional points of movements that could possibly fail due to the increased stress associated with being at the back of an RV.

This is a steel carrier rated for 500 lbs of tongue weight that will work well for you.
