Do I Need to Make Fuel Pump Modications before I Install a Edge Comp for Dodge Cummins, # EP30301

Question:

I have a 2001 Dodge Ram Quad Cab 2500 automatic turbo diesel-long bed. Considering a Edge Juice W/Attitude CS. 98,000 original miles on truck. Mostly used for towing 5th wheel and boat combination 11,000 lbs on towables. I understand the need for intake and exhaust modifications but one diesel mechanic advised the first thing he recommends changing would be the original fuel pump to FASS filtration system 95GPH. Is this necessary and why?

Your diesel mechanic is giving you sound advice. I researched your truck and found that the fuel pump systems in your generation of Dodge Rams are notorious for going out, and with the addition of a programmer on your vehicle, you will accelerate the chances of the pump going out and causing even more damage.

Depending on the power goals you have for your truck, you may not need the 95 GPH FASS system, as there is a economical 89 GPH FASS that might work for your truck.

As a rule of thumb, you will always need more fuel if you are planning on increasing power, so the fact that you would need to upgrade your fuel system is not out of the ordinary.

I attached installation instructions below for you to check out also.
