Comparing Reese Weight Distribution System With Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System
Question:
I am looking at a Reese SC Weight Distribution System w Sway Control - Trunnion - 10,000 lbs GTW, 600 lbs TW Item # RP66558 and a Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control - 6,000 lbs GTW, 600 lbs TW Item # EQ37060ET. Which would work best on a 2011 F 150 and a 17SD Casita trailer without modifications and provide the best performance.

The Reese Steadi-Flex # RP66558 and the Equal-i-zer # EQ37060ET systems are both very good and will work well with your 2011 Ford F-150 and your 17SD Casita trailer. The major differences are in the tilting design of the head, the trunnion bars, and the friction points.
The Equal-i-zer system uses the traditional washer stacking design for the head angle, where the Reese system uses a serrated washer design so no additional washers or stacking is needed. The trunnion bars are shaped a little differently with the Equal-i-zer using square bars without a taper and the Reese system using hot rolled tapered spring bars. The Equal-i-zer system uses friction both in the head assembly and the brackets on the trailer for metal on metal drag to keep the trailer stable. The Reese system uses only automotive grade friction pads mounted to the brackets on the trailer to contol sway with the bars holding constant pressure on the pads.
Both systems are good and I really can't give you a poor report card on either one. The other differences are in price and parts. The Reese system requires a hitch ball like # 63845 or # 63847 depending on coupler size, and I suggest a locking hitch pin like # e99039. The Equal-i-zer system comes with the hitch ball but needs a Thin Walled Socket for Equal-i-zer Hitches # EQ70-00-4800, and I recommend the same hitch pin lock set.
I personally would go with the Reese system based on price and function but you can't go wrong with either option. It comes down to preferences.
