Although it is recommended that you use a slider 5th wheel hitch or a Sidewinder pin box with a 5th wheel trailer and at least 6ft short bed vehicles, it is possible to use a standard 5th wheel hitch if the driver is aware of their cab to trailer clearances and feels they can perform these turns without damaging truck or trailer. Any beds under 6 ft. in length should always use a slider 5th wheel hitch.

On a 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty with no factory installed prep package, the hitch I recommend is
the Reese 5th Wheel, # RP30928, and the Reese Quick-Install Base Rails and Kit, # RP50074-58. This Reese hitch has a 20K lbs rating and features a single wrap-around jaw for a secure king pin connection.

If you have the factory prep package, then the same Reese # RP30081 hitch will work well with a the Reese Elite Series Underbed Adapter # RP30156.

If you already have a 5th wheel hitch that will mount to industry standard rails and you have the Ford prep package, then you can use the Reese # RP30156 adapter to mount your hitch to your truck.

Remember only use a non-sliding hitch if the driver knows their clearances and is able to make the tight turns without causing serious damage to your truck and trailer.
