Where to Measure to Determine if Kuat Sherpa will Fit Hitch and Clear Bumper

Question:

I looked at this bike rack last fall, winter approached and I dropped my consideration. Looks like the measurements have tightened a bit from what my notes said about this model in 2016. Center hitch pin distance of hitch is 6.25 inches to the back edge of the bumper. The smaller hitch pin distance about 1 inch behind it, closest to front of hitch is 5.25 inches. If you are suppose to use the center pin, I measure I will have 1.25 inches for the folded up distance from the back edge of the bumper. And, if you could use the smaller hitch pin behind it, you would have 2.25 inches in clearance from the back edge of the bumper. I like this particular bike rack, compact, simple in design and the color Pearl White is the same color as my Subaru. I also looked at a Saris 2 bike # SA4025 that is not available. Seems the Saris line is for 4 bicycles.

The Saris Freedom Superclamp EX2 part # SA4025F is still available. Just wanted to get that out of the way first!

On the Kuat Sherpa part # SH22P the closest part of the rack to the hitch pin measures 7-1/2 inches.

I am not sure what hitch you have and if both of the pin holes are designed for use as hitch pin holes so you would need to measure again to be sure. Some Draw Tite 2 inch hitches had a second smaller pin hole that was supposed to be used for a J-hook anti-rattle device. If this is what you have then you need to use the larger pin hole
