Replacement Hub and Drum Assembly for 3,500 Pound Trailer Axle

Question:

Dear etrailer experts, I have a 2006 12 ft single axle enclosed trailer made by Pace America. I want to replace the hub and bearing of the axle. However, the sticker on the axle is no longer readable. I measured: the bolt pattern is 5x4-1/4 the outer diameter of the grease cap is roughly 2 inch. The tag on the trailer indicates 3000lbs loading capacity. So it probably has a 3500lb axle. Do I have to open the grease cap to identify if it is a ez-lub axle? Are AKIHUB-545-35-G-EZ-K or AKIHUB-545-35-K the correct choice ez-lub/standard for my trailer? Thank you!

If your axle does indeed have a 3,500 pound weight capacity then the etrailer.com Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K for E-Z Lube Axles or # AKHD-545-35-K for standard axles should work great.

These have an inner bearing # L68149 and outer bearing # L44649, which you can verify match your existing assembly by checking the numbers stamped onto the bearings. These work with 10 inch brake assemblies. These hub and drum assemblies also have a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern. If yours have a 5 on 4-1/4 inch bolt pattern as indicated in your question, these will not work. We do not currently have a hub and drum assembly with this bolt pattern. I have attached an article that explains how to determine the bolt pattern that may help.

An E-Z Lube Axle like the Dexter # 7359765 will have built-in grease zerks for easy lubrication. You can remove the grease cap on your hub to determine this.

I have included a helpful article on replacing the bearing, races and seals for you to check out.
