Trailer sway or whipping is normally caused by a low tongue weight condition due to improper trailer loading. Proper tongue weight is the best defense against trailer sway. For your ATV trailer you should have at least 10 percent of the total trailer weight on the tongue of the trailer, this means that there should be more weight loaded in front of the trailer axle or axles than behind them.

Trailer tires will also help keep the trailer in line with the tow vehicle but will not correct improper trailer loading. If your trailer has passenger vehicle tires on it, it would be a good idea to switch out to ST rated trailer tires like the Loadstar ST185/80D13, item # AM1ST79, tire that you mentioned. Keep in mind that trailer tires have thicker side walls that heat easily if not properly inflated. Keep ST trailer tires inflated to the maximum PSI rating stated on the sidewall of the tire.

Finally, if you cannot get the trailer sway to subside with new tires and proper trailer loading, you could go with a weight distribution system that includes sway control, like the Reese light duty Weight Distribution System item # 66557.
