Recommended Transmission Cooler With Fan For 1996 C1500 Suburban
Question:
I have a 96 C1500 Suburban, and towing a 6,000 lbs camping trailer. I can see the transmission temp climb when going up a hill. I currently have a factory cooler installed, the fluid is cooled by the radiator then goes to the cooler. My question is, can I still leave the factory set-up, and install an additional cooler with a fan to help cool the transmission? Will it decrease the fluid pressure since the fluid will be going into two coolers? Maybe I can fit the cooler with the fan under the car?...

On your 1996 C1500 Suburban, you can use an additional cooler in addition to a factory cooler without any noticable decrease in pressure. It will help to cool your transmission fluid further and the cooler with fan will allow you to mount it almost anywhere. I don't recommend mounting it under your vehicle due to road debris and rocks, but technically you can install it there in a somewhat protected location.
I recommend the Derale Atomic-Cool Remote Transmission Cooler Kit w/ Fan, -8 AN Inlets - Class V # D15950 for your application. This is a highly efficient, plate-fin cooler with minimal pressure drop. It offers superior airflow with 500-CFM tornado fan. It comes with aluminum brackets for mounting.
