Is Welding Required for the Lippert Ground Control 3.0 Leveling System

Question:

I ask how you remove the old front landing gear and put themes electric ones on. I got back an answer that the front ones had to be welded. Your article said they bolt on. Also, I still dont understand how you get the trailer in position to be able remove the old ones and get the new ones in place to bolt or to weld. But do you bolt or weld these???

Welding is usually not required for the Lippert Ground Control 3.0 Leveling System, # LC358590. The taller front jacks will replace your existing landing gear legs that should be mounted to the trailer to brackets with a bolt. and the smaller rear jacks can bolt to the frame. I have attached a link to the installation instructions for you to check out.

The only time welding may be required is if the frame brackets for the front jacks do not match up with the weld stops on the outer tubes of the front jacks. If that is the case, then the frame brackets would have to be cut off of the frame and welded at the proper location. I attached a diagram that shows the measurements that you will want to look at to see if the front jacks will fit your trailer.

There are a few ways to get the trailer in position to swap out the jacks. The installation instructions call for jack stands on all four corners of the unit and remove any underside paneling or rock guards where necessary. Some people will hook the trailer to the truck and chock the wheels and use the truck to support the pin weight while swapping out the front landing gear legs.

My RV (2014 Jayco Pinnacle 42 feet) has 4 point Atwood levelegs, which are completely fried. I will be putting on a 6 point lippert 3.0 system. Question is my front landing legs have frame clamps wielded on the frame 12.5 inches apart from each other. When the new legs arrive can I smash down one wielded stop and wield on a new chunk of metal to the leg to fit between my existing frame wielded clamps, or do I have to grind off all 4 frame clamps and re-wield them back on the frame to match up with the 17.5 inch spacing of the new lippert legs. Other question would be leaving the inplace clamps in place and wielding on new clamps, if they are even available to obtain?

If your old brackets don't line up with the weld stops for the Lippert Ground Control # LC675817 then you'll need to have new ones installed using part # LG-Brackets, and you might need to cut your old ones off.
