Recommended Bike Rack For 2006 Honda Accord And 45 lb Electric Bike
Question:
What kind of weight can the bike rack support? I have an electric bike that weighs approximately 45 pounds? What trunk rack do you recommend for a 2006 Honda Accord? Thank you.

The Thule Passage # TH910XT has a weight capacity of 35 lbs per bike. This is the norm for a trunk mounted bike rack, so you may want to consider using a hitch mounted bike rack. The only trunk mounted system that is compatible with a 45 lb bike is the # 298-BK1910-SV which is a 4-vaccum cup mount rack for 1 bike.
I recommend the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4" # 24787 that will give you a sturdy option for your electric bike. For the bike rack you can use the Swagman XTC-2 2-Bike Platform Rack # S64670. This will give you a 70 lb capacity which is intended for 2 bikes at 35 lbs each, but will be able to carry a slighly heavier bike on the inside of the rack using the hitch mount as long as the outside bike is 25 lbs or lighter. All of our Electric bike carriers are for 2 inch receiver platform racks and that is not an option for your vehicle, so you will have more limitations like this and will be working outside of the manufacturers recommendation. To secure your bikes to the rack and your rack to the hitch, I recommend the Anti-Rattle Hitch Lock and Cable for Swagman Bike Racks # S64031.
