Using a Gooseneck Hitch to Tow a Fifth Wheel with a Sidewinder Pin Box

Question:

I have a jayco wih a the wheel hitch with the rotating turret. I want to adapt it to a gooseneck hitch ball. Everything I have read tells me a can't do that because both hitches will be turning at the same time. Can you tell me if anyone makes an adapter like I need or can the sidewinder turret be locked since I dont need the extra space in my new truck?

A Sidewinder can be locked out to function the same as a regular pin box. To do that you would remove the wedge that locks it out at the hitch and insert two bolts up through the bottom at the turret to prevent it from swiveling at the turret. Once it's locked it will basically be a standard pin box.

Using a Sidewinder with an adapter on the pin box that connects into a gooseneck hitch, such as the Convert-A-Ball # CAB-C5G, hasn't been tested by Reese. However, you would be able to use a gooseneck-to-fifth-wheel adapter like the Reese Hi-Rise # 9480. The Hi-Rise installs into the gooseneck hitch in your truck bed and gives you a fifth wheel hitch.
