To install an electric brake controller, such as the Prodigy P2 # 90885, into your 2002 Ford Explorer that has a factory 4-way trailer connector you'll need to hardwire it in.
Before you can install the controller you'll need to install a 7-way trailer connector and all the wiring to power your trailer's brakes. For this you'll need our # ETBC7 kit. it uses your existing 4-way to provide a fully functioning 7-way. I've linked a video showing you the process.
Once you have the # ETBC7 installed You'll need to connect the controller's wires as such:
Black to 12 volt power
White to ground
Red to cold side of stop light switch - The wire that has power when the brake pedal is pressed
Blue to brake circuit on 7-way trailer connector.
