Recommended Tire and Wheel to Upgrade Size on Utility Trailer

Question:

I want to replace the tires and wheels on my utility trailer. It currently has 4.80X12 on 4 1/2 X 5 Bolt Pattern Wheel. I would like to increase the wheel and tire size to 175/80-13 with 4 1/2 X 5 Bolt Pattern. Will this work and should I measure the wheel well from spindle to top of wheel well?

The Taskmaster Provider ST175/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire w/ 13 Inch White Wheel # TA43RR should work well for replacing the smaller 4.80X12, 5 on 4-1/2 inch tire and wheel currently on your trailer. This tire has a ply rating of 16 and a 1,360 pound max load at 50 psi.

I definitely recommend measuring the space between the trailer axle and top of wheel well to ensure you will have adequate space for larger tires. You will want to have around 4 inches between the tire tread and the underside of the wheel well. You will also want at least an inch between the tire's sidewall and any parts of the trailer.

The outer diameter of the # TA43RR is 24 inches and the width is 6.97 inches, so about 7 inches.
