Recommended Weight Distribution System for 2015 Ram 1500 Towing Amerilite Travel Trailer
Question:
Hello, I have a 2015 RAM 1500 and am towing an amerilite travel trailer. The Dry Weight is 4,880 lbs and the Hitch Weight is 620 lbs. I have been looking at the fastweigh e2 weight distribution system to help make for an easier haul. I am not entirely sure which one to get though... another site had said to go with the 10000 / 1000 lb version, but I have seen lots of good reviews of your site and would like your opinion. Also, does this system allow for backing up? We are planning on taking our first cross country camping trip this spring and I am hoping this system might make the trip a little less stressful! Thanks!

The most important factor to consider when choosing a weight distribution system is the total tongue weight of your setup. The total tongue weight will include the loaded tongue weight of your trailer, along with any added weight behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. Ideally, the total tongue weight will fall somewhere around the middle of the weight range capacity of the weight distribution system we choose.
The best way to determine your total tongue weight will be to simply load up your trailer and Ram 1500 as if you were going on the cross-country trip, and then use a tongue weight scale like the etrailer #e99044 to get an accurate reading.
The Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control - Round - 10,000 pounds # FA94-00-1061 referenced in your question will most likely be a good fit, depending on what your loaded tongue weight ends up being. This has a weight range capacity of 600 - 1000 pounds, so there is definitely some room to work with. This is a very nice system that includes sway-control brackets that will help to ensure your trailer stays in line with your tow vehicle. The Fastway does allow for backing up, which is a great feature. This also does not have any lift chains, which is another ease-of-use benefit that will help minimize the stress level during your trip.
Both the shank and 2-5/16 inch hitch ball are included in this system.
I have attached a video review on this product as well as a helpful article on weight distribution systems for you to check out.
