Recommended Weight Distribution System for 2008 Toyota Highlander

Question:

I have a 2008 Highlander with the factory towing packaged rated at a maximum of 5,000 lbs with a maximum hitch weight of 500 lbs. I will be towing a Dutchmen 201QB that has a dry weight of 3,849 lbs and a dry hitch weight of 385 lbs. I will almost always be towing with empty tanks. What weight distribution hitch would you recommend. I want sway control on the hitch. Thanks

When looking at weight distribution systems, the most important factor to consider is the total tongue weight of your setup. The total tongue weight will include the loaded tongue weight of your trailer along with any added weight behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. You will also just want to confirm that the factory trailer hitch on your Toyota Highlander is rated for a weight distribution system. This will be listed on the hitch itself.

Since the dry tongue weight of your trailer is 385 pounds, we will want to leave some wiggle room with the system we choose to account for the weight when it is fully loaded. Ideally, your total tongue weight will fall somewhere around the middle of the weight capacity range of the weight distribution system.

I recommend the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control # EQ37060ET. This system has a weight capacity range of 200-600 pounds, which should be perfect for your setup. This will evenly distribute weight over the axles of your Highlander and trailer for added stability and control. The integrated 4-Point Sway Control limits side-to-side movement and will help to minimize sway caused by winds, curvy roads or sudden maneuvers.

This system includes the head assembly, adjustable shank, hitch ball and all the necessary hardware. I have attached a video review of this product for you to check out.
