Recommended Trailer Brake Controller and Wiring for 2011 Toyota Highlander
Question:
I have a 2011 Toyota Highlander limited non-hybrid. It currently has a hitch with a 4 pin connector and I need to convert it to a full 7 pin with brake control for pulling an RV. Can you point me in the right direction for my needs? Im handy, just need the kits to install wire harness, brake controller etc.

Since you already have a 4-pin connector installed on your 2011 Toyota Highlander, you will just need the Universal Installation Kit # ETBC7. This will give you everything required to install a brake controller and a 7-way trailer connector at the back of your vehicle. I have attached the installation instructions as well as an installation video on a 2012 Toyota Highlander for you to check out.
Then for a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller # 90885. This is a great proportional brake controller that will activate your trailer's brakes at the same time and with the same intensity that you apply to them in your vehicle. It also includes a digital display and continuous diagnostic checks that will alert you of any potential issues. This unit is known for its reliability and ease of installation. I have included a video review of this brake controller for you to look at.
