Back-Up Camera with Sensors Used with Tailgate Lowered

Question:

I occasionally use my truck with a slide-in camper which rests on the tailgate as well as the truck bed. How would that affect the usefulness of the sensor device? I have a 2001 GMC 1500 extended cab with a 6 bed

I have spoken with one of our contacts with Hopkins Manufacturing, who tell me that having the tailgate open would interfere with the operation of the sensor portion of the Camera System. Although the camera portion would still work well for you, the beeping from the sensor reading the tailgate would most likely become annoying.

A better option for you would be to use a back up camera system that does not feature the proximity sensors. The Master Lock Wireless Backup Camera and Hitch Alignment System, part # 4843DAT would be a good choice.
