Does Reese Hitch Extender RP45018 Have to Be Cut if It Can Slide Through Hitch

Question:

Bought the Reese Titan hitch extender from you a few days ago. Want to clarify a couple of Things? First, as I understand it the safety chains from the hitch to the extension connect to the top loops on the extention tube. Is that Correct? Second, the demonstration video says if I need to use the extension bar at 41 inches I need to cut the bar. Instead of cutting the bar can I just slide the bar into the hitch and put the pin into the forward hole and not cut it. I put the bar into my curt hitch and found that I had about 6inch sticking out the back of the receiver hole. It did not interfere with anything. So I was thinking I could just leave it the full length but use it at the 41 inch length. Am I not seeing something?

Expert Reply:

If you can slide the extender all the way to the shorter length without interference there would be no reason for you to have to cut it. With the safety chains you would run them from the trailer to the loops of the extender since they wouldn't reach to the vehicle.
