Solutions for Malfunctioning Integrated Brake Controller in 2007 GMC Sierra 2500HD
Question:
I have a 2007.5 GMC Sierra 2500 hd with factory ITBC. My service trailer break message comes on every time I start the truck and I dont have any trailer breaks. I replaced the ITBC module and relay and checked all my fuses. Any ideas on what else it could be or at least give me some direction on how to install a after market break controller on it since I dont have the factory pig tail under the dash like other trucks that didnt come with trailer breaks from the factory do.

It could be as simple as a dirty trailer connector. Since you replaced all the things you did and are still having problems it has to be something simple like the connector being dirty or the wiring shorting out on the back of the connector.
If that doesn't work I attached a help article that details how to replace the integrated controller with an aftermarket one.
For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup. This is a proportional brake controller that senses the amount of braking the tow vehicle is applying and applies a proportionate amount to the trailer brakes.
