How to Select Weight Distribution/Sway Control System
Question:
Hi I am looking to upgrade my WD hitch to include a better then friction bar sway control system. I am looking at the Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control - Trunnion - 15,000 lbs GTW, 1,500 lbs TW or the Strait-Line Weight Distribution w Sway Control - Trunnion Bar - 15,000 lbs GTW, 1,500 lbs TW. Which will eliminate sway better?

The Reese Strait-Line weight distribution/sway control (WD/SC) systems, such as # RP66130, and the Curt Tru-Track # C17501 are unique in that they work to prevent trailer sway before it starts, rather than try to correct the problem after the fact. Between the two our installation team prefers the Strait-Line system's performance, although the smaller lift brackets on the Curt will be preferable in certain installations where space on the trailer frame is limited. If that consideration does not apply to your trailer then I recommend the Strait-Line. Either one will be a big improvement over a friction sway control device.
All WD/SC systems should be select based on the fully-loaded trailer's actual measured tongue weight (TW). This can be determined most easily with a scale like # e99044. Ideally your loaded trailer TW will fall near the middle of the system's operating range.
