The Convert-A-Ball Cushioned 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Adapter -12 to 16 Inch Tall, part # CAB-C5G , will allow you to use the gooseneck hitch in your 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 4WD truck and tow the fifth wheel camper. For safe operation the required clearance between the overhang of the fifth wheel and the top of the siderails of your truck is 6 inches.

To find the correct height coupler for your vehicle you will want to take a measurement. First, back your truck into position as if you were hooking up your fifth-wheel trailer, making sure that the truck and trailer are level. Then, measure from the pin plate (the bottom of the pin box) down to the top of the ball in the bed of your truck. The result is the size adapter you will need.

You might also be interested in an adjustable adapter like the Ranch Hitch Universal 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Coupler Adapter, # AM3100, that adjusts from 11-3/4 inches up to 14-3/4 inches. If the measurement you have taken is within that adjustment range, this adapter will work for you.

If the gooseneck hitch you have on your truck is a Hide-A-Goose by Draw-Tite or Reese, an Under-Bed by Bulldog, or the B and W Turnover Ball, you can also use the Hi-Rise Gooseneck to Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch, part # 9480. This is a fifth wheel hitch that will sit in the gooseneck ball hole. It has a vertical height adjustment of 14-1/4 inches to 18 inches. Since this hitch is a fifth wheel hitch design it will give you a better ride than the gooseneck coupler adapters.
